Thursday Ten: The Who Said It Was Allowed To Be This Cold? Edition

1. Oh. My. God. It was -7 this morning when I got the girls ready to get in the car to get to school. MINUS SEVEN. That wasn’t windchill. That was the straight up temperature. Too cold. This is too cold. I don’t like it and it can stop now.

2. I went shopping with my sister and her maid of honor today to pick out bridesmaid dresses. We all fell in love with the same dress, a long sleeveless jersey dress that was so comfortable it was like wearing a nightgown. In a good way. (Is there a bad way to feel like you’re wearing a nightgown? I dunno. It was comfy and will be awesome for a night on the dance floor).

3. I have a horrid, rotten, miserable cold. I can’t breathe, I’m coughing like crazy, my throat hurts, I can’t taste anything, my muscles ache, my skin HURTS. I hate being sick. I hate that Pumpkin is bringing home every preschool cootie, and I hate that I catch every preschool cootie she coughs in my face. This could be a very long winter.

4. In guitar lesson today, I started learning Fur Elise (where’s the little doohickey to put the funky whosy-whatsit’s over the u ?). I have tried four notes of it and then we ran out of time, so we’ll see if I can handle it. I look forward to being able to play it, sounding like the ice cream truck and messing my kids up.

5. The Princess finally has her VERY FIRST LOOSE TOOTH. She’s thrilled. It’s not that loose, but she can’t get her fingers off that sucker. Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle.

6. Every time I’m sick, I think of “The Devil Wears Prada” when the chick says she’s just one stomach flu away from her goal weight. I’ve had two bites of toast with butter for dinner, and gave the rest to Pumpkin. I’m quite sure that I’m hungry on top of feeling pukey, but nothing sounds even remotely good. So, today I’m running on a bowl of cereal, two slices of toast, a latte, a bagel (in a rare moment of feelin’ good, I scarfed it down before guitar) and then two more bites of toast. Yes, I stick to carbs when I feel yucky.

7. This week, a friend of mine suggested our daughters become email penpals. And thus began The Princess getting HER VERY FIRST email address (there’s one for the memory book, right?) and she has a friend she loves to write to. It’s very cool. The downside? It takes her about thirty minutes to type two sentences.

8. Hmm. Maybe I’ll see if I can drink a Coke Zero without feeling nasty. Not that that even remotely helps the whole nourishment thing, but… (Yeah, I have no idea why I’m not drinking more water.)… maybe it will help settle my stomach. [Note: Wow. Even Coke Zero is a big loser today. UGH!]

9. Do you guys remember when I was this sick last year? Looks like I’m a little ahead of schedule this year. Poor Pumpkin has been sick too – but I don’t think she has the queasiness (because she hasn’t stopped eating in days). Her cough, though? It’s gruesome.

10. I took a break from “Catch-22” and am now reading “Lord of the Flies”. It always amazes me the sheer number of books I haven’t read. These “classics” that supposedly everyone has read – I haven’t. I’m a voracious reader – but apparently, I still have a lot of work to do.

Thursday Ten: Buried In The Classics Edition

1. First – some Blissfully Domestic stuff. BD is up for a WEBLOG award for Best Parenting Blog. You can vote once per day. One vote per computer… so,
9. FINALLY! Guitar lesson today! It’s been far too long. Felt good to be back.

10. Procrastinate much? I am now nearly 6 months late in getting Pumpkin’s 3 year pictures done. Guess I better get myself together.

Thursday Ten – Why, HELLO 2009 Edition…

1. Um, yeah: Happy New Year! (State the obvious first – and now I can be just like every other blog you’ll read today). 2008 is over and I’m excited to see what ’09 has in store for me.

2. Today is the first day of my 101 List. I’ve done nothing so far. I started reading a new book, and eventually that will be 1 of the 250 I said I would read in the next 1001 days. Yes, 250 books. It’s not unreasonable. But, the inevitable part is that a fair amount of those books will be fluff.

3. New music this week: “On the Way Down” and “True” by Ryan Cabrera, “Sounds So Good” by Ashton Shepherd, “Silver Lining” by Rilo Kiley, “You Are the Best Thing” Ray LaMontagne, “Use Someone” and “Closer” by Kings of Leon, “Without You” by Hinder, and “I Melt With You” as covered by Jason Mraz. (Guess who’s burning through Christmas iTunes gift cards?).

4. My sister got engaged yesterday! She came over today to flash her ring at me and to ask me to be in the wedding. I may be the oldest bridesmaid EVER.

5. For those of you in blended family situations, we’re looking for contributors for a new channel on Blissfully Domestic – let me know if you’re interested.

6. I’m eating a candy cane. I love candy canes. I am thinking about how good it would taste in a huge mug of hot cocoa. Except… I just finished my candy cane. Gonna have to open another one, or hold that peppermint cocoa thought for another day.

7. We picked up Playground for the Wii today. The Princess is totally Queen of the Wii.

8. I miss guitar lessons. I’ve barely picked up my guitar. I need practice and I am not sure why I haven’t.

9. I’m really ready for Winter Break to be over. I miss the routine of getting things done. I miss the quiet. I know The Princess is loving her endless Wii hours, but I know she’s missing her friends too. Pumpkin needs some time to be around crazy amounts of kids doing circle time things. We’ve actually had a fun time, and we’ve done some fun stuff – but I’m ready to get things done and have some downtime.

10. Wow. Yeah, I’ve got nothing else. Happy new year – hope 2009 brings you joy and happiness, and other stuff.

Thursday Ten: One Week Til Christmas (OMG) Edition

1. Pumpkin has been hit hard this week with the crud – a fever, a nasty cough and a very drippy runny nose which has resulted in: very little sleep, a listless kiddo, and a funky rash on her face from wiping her nose with her arm (I know, I know. It’s gross). Last night, I gave her her prescription cough med with codeine – thinking, “Cool, she’ll feel better so she can sleep, and then I’ll be able to sleep.” Nope. She was up around 1:30 with a temp around 102, the heat just radiating from her little body – even her wet diaper that I peeled off her was hot, like she was peeing boiled water (again, I know: It’s gross).

2. Sick kiddo meant NO daycare today, which meant that I took her with me to my guitar lesson. It actually went better than I thought it might, and thought it was a little LESS laid back, it was still good to get out and do it – especially because the upcoming holidays means I won’t have a lesson until the second Thursday in January. That’s a long time.

3. I won a $20 gift card to Amazon.com today – which was awesome. I totally plan on using it to buy something FOR MYSELF, and I know that it’s not the season to be a greedy self-gift-giver… I’m gonna anyway.

4. We’re supposed to get hit hard with snow sometime before noon tomorrow. Like, up to a foot of snow, they’re predicting. No fun. No fun at all… If there is a snow day before the kids have two weeks off from school… well… guess that’s winter in Michigan, isn’t it?

5. I really hate wrapping presents. I have a ton of stuff I still need to wrap and I’m putting off. This is a marathon, not a sprint, right? I better get started.

6. As I type, Pumpkin must be feeling better. She is making a tower with a wrapped Christmas present (Hubby musta wrapped that one – it’s for me – I know what it is), a box of paper clips, my digital camera, a purse pack of Kleenex and my bra. I’m not sure if she’s going to be a sculpture artist when she grows up or an engineer.

7. Snow day or not, I have to spend tomorrow baking a whole big ton of cookies. Saturday is our annual cookie decorating party. Since a few of her friends couldn’t come, The Princess asked if she could invite some of her friends from school. I said yeah. She then said she was inviting 11 more girls and two boys, and I told her, “Back that truck up, Missy. No.” So, guess on Saturday we’ll see if what I said sunk in or if I’ll be hosting the entire first grade.

8. You know what sounds really good right now? Mexican food. Spicy, spicy Mexican food. That I don’t have to cook.

9. New music this week: “You Found Me” The Fray; “Be Like That” Three Doors Down (after which I realized that DUH, I am pretty sure we have this cd, and I could have just ripped the cd to iTunes – I am a GENIUS), and uhhh Britney’s “If You Seek Amy” which really has nothing to do with anyone named Amy – say it kinda fast, and it sounds like you’re spelling a little somethin’ somethin’.

10. What gift are y’all looking forward to giving most of all next week? Anything special you can’t wait for someone to open?

Thursday Ten, Two Weeks Til Christmas Edition

1. As I type this, Chris at Rude Cactus is up to 208 comments. So, over $100 to charity so far. If you haven’t yet dropped him a comment, remember, he’s donating $.50 per comment to charity (read his post for details). And, yes, you should still read him tomorrow and beyond that, because he’s funny.

2. My guitar lesson went so well today. I walked out and was unbelievably giddy – because I just felt like some things I had been struggling with (mainly bar chords) were finally coming together. I played one well – thought it was a fluke, and then went through the rest and almost consistently, they were coming together. I have been having THE WORST time with them- basically because it takes finger strength to do them, and the only way you can get that kind of strength is by (hey!) doing them. So, yeah – you have to play it like crap a whole lot of times until you’re strong enough to play it less like crap. And I hit that today and I’m happy.

3. Oh my god I have eaten so many cookies. Does anyone want to send me Chex Mix or Cheetos?

4. And since I’m asking, does anyone want to come over and make dinner for my family tonight because I looked in the fridge and there’s not much there. Looks like we’re having yogurt, gingerbread cookies and Cheerios. Yum.

5. I have been sleeping horribly this week, and so that’s been difficult. I’m fine once I fall asleep – it’s the actually FALLING ASLEEP part that I’m having trouble with. Any ideas?

6. I have to go to a baby shower this weekend for my cousin’s wife. I am in charge of getting the gift. I haven’t looked at her registry yet. I haven’t been to Babies R Us yet. I am doing a pretty crappy job with this gifting thing for her. This is their first, so I’m kind of curious as to what they registered for. I’m sure I did moronic registering when I was pregnant for The Princess. Typical clueless first time parent who thinks you really need a wipe warmer or a bottle warmer that plugs into your cigarette lighter (used once, I think). I am told their registry is 19 pages long, so I’m hoping that means there is still some stuff left to choose from when I finally get to the store.

7. New music this week – still pretty slow, musically. A friend of mine is a country music fan and had me listen to “Stay” by Sugarland and then the freakin’ song got stuck in my head so I bought it (thanks). I have a huge list of new music – but I also get to feeling a little guilty buying things for myself at this time of year.

8. My mom sent out her family Christmas letter and a card with a collage of pictures of everyone in our family. There are six grandchildren, five kids (us and our stepbrothers), three significant others, my mom and her husband… AND WE ALL LOOK LIKE CRAP IN THE INDIVIDUAL PICTURES. What are the odds that NOT ONE PERSON looks good? Well, we hit the photographic jackpot. Everyone looks like hell. Merry Christmas. (Though I do have to say the part of her family Christmas letter that talks about my family is the best part of the letter because I wrote it).

9. Do you love or hate getting people’s family Christmas letters? My mom is known for sending them – but I hated getting other people’s letters when we were kids. Hearing all these fantastic things their kids were doing, all these amazing places they were travelling. It always felt like “hey, read the 101 ways our family is better than yours”. Or, maybe I just have a complex.

10. I have to break my dry spell on music buying. Tell me what you’re listening to these days?

Thursday Ten: Three Weeks ‘Til Christmas Edition

1. With the Thanksgiving holiday last Thursday, I have now had two weeks off between guitar lessons. I missed it! It was good to be back today and my fingers are killing me because in the second half of these two weeks, I have barely picked up my guitar. Today, I started learning Three Doors Down’s “Be Like That”. See that goofy looking guitarist in the beginning of the video (and MY GOD – does he know what he looks like chewing his gum like that?!) – that’s what I’m learning.

2. Three weeks til Christmas? Oh my god. Can you believe it? It’s just around the corner. Are y’all done with your shopping? Have you started?

3. I’m starting to wonder where all my free time went. It has been pure insanity lately. Sometimes I’m not even sure what I’ve been doing but I feel like I’ve been running around like crazy. Must be all those stupid snow delays.

4. I have a conference call tonight with folks in Central time zone who were considerate enough to bump the call today by 30 minutes right smack in the middle of the time I would need to be fixing my family dinner. I’m sure no one considered that it’s an hour later in Michigan than where they are. I guess the bright side is that I don’t have to make dinner. Of course, the downside is that I’m probably going to end up eating toast for dinner. That’s not fun.

5. I have not purchased any new music this week. I have not been hit on the head with a blunt object. I don’t think I have a fever or other illness that might cause me mental confusion. I just haven’t. Boy. That’s odd. Better fix that situation quickly!

6. Getting ready for our third annual cookie decorating party that is set to take place in two weeks. I need a good recipe for gingerbread cookies. Please enlighten me if you have one that rocks. I love gingerbread, and I want to do this for real this year – not from a mix. Though, I have to make a couple hundred cookies, so some mix cookies might be necessary.

7. In the next week, I will hit day 100 of the 365 Picture Project. ONE HUNDRED. Can you believe it? I sure can’t. I haven’t missed a day yet, even though some of my pictures have been boring or goofy. I’m definitely not a hardcore photographer, but it’s fun and I keep looking back on the days prior and it’s been an awesome way to reflect.

8. Top Chef – I love that show. I get sucked in every week and every week I am reminded how absolutely very little I know about cooking. Last night’s episode was pretty neat because they had to kind of explain to us stupid people at home how to make something. And it was nice to see most of the chefs falter at that. I’m not sure why I found amusement in their failure, but I did. Don’t judge me.

9. If you were going out of town for a weekend because you just had cabin fever SO BAD you couldn’t stand to sit at home one more weekend. Let’s say you live in Michigan. Let’s say you’re going to drive wherever you end up going – WHERE would you go and WHAT would you do?

10. I just realized that I’m about four months overdue in getting Pumpkin’s 3 year pictures taken, and the thought of going ANYWHERE to get them done right now makes me claustrophobic and squidgy because you know those photostudios are going to be filled with matchy-matchy families in their red matchy Christmas clothes. YUCK. Maybe I’ll put it off another month.

Thursday Ten: Where Did Time GO?! Edition

1. I was in guitar lesson today and my teacher and I realized it was the 20th already. The 20th. My god, where did November go?! And Christmas is right around the corner. I have still got a lot to do before Christmas comes.

2. Speaking of Christmas… caught a sneak preview of “Four Christmases” last night. Was it rocket science? No. Does that matter? No. I still love Vince Vaughn and still loved the movie and I laughed so hard at some parts (and oh my god I didn’t even recognize Tim McGraw as Vince Vaughn’s brother. Wow).

3. Music this week… Well, I bought the whole soundtrack to “Twilight” which is actually pretty good (songs weren’t available individually – I almost never buy complete albums anymore). Also bought three tracks from David Cook’s cd. I’m a bit iffy on those – I like them but they seem pretty formulaic, radio-friendly, nothing new. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

4. Today, I started learning Beethoven’s “Ode To Joy” on guitar. She’s teaching me two parts so we can do a duet of sorts (for no good reason other than to teach me how to play when someone else is playing at the same time). She also started teaching me “Rodeo Clowns” by Jack Johnson which involves four chords I just learned today.

Seeing as how all four are barre chords and my fingers just don’t have the strength yet it may take me awhile. The good news is that the chords all have the same basic shape – it’s just a matter of moving them to different frets. I’ll get it. I’m determined and I hate not being good at things.

5. I think we’re finally done with getting our basement drywalled. Which is good, because you know, we finished our basement three and a half years ago and there was no good reason for it to be torn up now. So I’m not in love with this basement project. Now, I’ll have to figure out which leftover paint color to paint it down there. Blah.

6. Supposed to see “Twilight” this weekend with my mom and sis. Hello movie month. That will bring November’s total to… Five? Six if I take The Princess to see “Bolt” next week, which I fully plan on because… why not?

7. This weekend is also the BAKING EXTRAVAGANZA with my BFF and her sister in law and so that ought to be fun. I’m hoping to not eat my weight in powdered sugar or whatever it is that we’re making. One of the things we’re making is chocolate covered pretzels and that will DO ME IN because I love them. A lot. More than I should. Yum.

8. Actual conversation with my mom:
Me: “Well, I found that out from her Facebook status message.”
Mom: “Why won’t you check MY Facebook? Why do you check HER Facebook but you won’t check mine?”
Me: “Because you don’t HAVE Facebook, mom.”
My mom did just sign up for MySpace last week – because she can’t fight the overwhelming urge to see what everyone is up to. My MySpace account pretty much just sits there, though. (My quote on my MS is “She’s like the DaVinci code. Except harder to crack.” Points to whoever can figure out what movie it’s from.)

9. Sometimes I have a very difficult time talking about myself in third person. I notice it when I’m trying to write witty status messages, or having to write my Blissfully Domestic bio earlier in the week. I start writing in third person and all I can think of is this guy I knew in college who would get so drunk and start referring to himself in third person: “Jay is really tired now. Jay had too much to drink. Jay thinks he needs to go home now.” Fun times.

10. Anyone watching the new Top Chef? It’s taking me awhile to get into it. Of course, I was only half paying attention to it last night because I was just zoning.

Thursday Ten: Big Fat Orange Moon Edition

1. I hate that it gets dark so early now, but as I left the house this evening to take some DVDs back to the movie rental place (“Baby Mama”, in case you were curious – but man, I can’t look at Tina Fey now without seeing Sarah Palin) and to go to Pumpkin’s preschool parent/teacher conferences (Seriously – more later) I looked up and the moon was rising and it was this huge big nearly perfectly round ball in the sky. I looked several times, not sure at first it was really the moon. I’m not sure what else I thought it might be, but it was just too perfect looking. As I drove, I kept looking up and the moon became more and more orange. Now it’s just obscured behind clouds (it IS Michigan, you know), but man, how beautiful.

2. And YES. Parent/Teacher conferences for Pumpkin’s preschool/daycare program. It was excruciating actually. When The Princess was this young, they didn’t do this kind of hooey, and though I’m relieved about that, I’m sure it would have been different because The Princess is this freakishly brilliant kid. Not saying Pumpkin’s not – she’s just…different. One of the things they assessed Pumpkin on is her knowledge of the alphabet – knowing the letter name, the Zoophonic animal representation, the Zoophonic “signal”, and if she could recognize the letter by sight. According to her assessment, she didn’t recognize any of the letters – a fact I know to be complete crap, because I’ve seen her identify letters. It’s really dumb to test kids like that – especially since three year olds tend to be free-wheeling, stubborn, controlling beasts who seem to like to do what THEY want to do WHEN they want to do it.

3. My grandfather seems to be doing well. He’s a little hoarse, but he’s home. I’m so relieved he spent less than 24 hours in the hospital this time. Whew. For those who extended positive thoughts towards my family – THANK YOU.

4. Music for the week: I have been listening to Seal’s “Soul” nonstop all day and I’ll be writing more about it soon, but OH MY GOD it’s incredible. So incredible. While I was all, “Oh Seal!” a friend sent me “I Wish”, a song by DMX featuring Seal, and I LOVE THAT ONE TOO. Also jamming to, “It’s a New Day” (Will.i.am), and “White Horse” (Taylor Swift). All good tunes. All of them. Not a rotten apple in the bunch this week.

5. In guitar today, my teacher taught me “Jesu, The Joy Of Man’s Desiring” (? Is that right?) by Bach. I told her I’d never heard the song before and she said, “What?! It’s in weddings all the time!” Well, not MY wedding (my dad wrote my music). Am I just an idiot?

6. My cousin rocks – he gave me free passes to see an early screening of “Four Christmases” next Wednesday. I’m so excited. I like Reese Witherspoon and I adore Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau. And it’s FREE. Wheeee!

7. New season of Top Chef started last night. My goodness, I love that show and it always blows my mind what they do with food and yet I remain a fantastically unenthusiastic cook. Go figure.

8. Three days a week, I pack a lunch for The Princess. I got this cool book of little note card dealies to put in her lunch (I bought the book from Target). I had no idea that she even liked getting the notes from me until Monday morning. She packed her own lunch and then came tearing through the house looking for me so that I could write her a note to put in her lunch bag. The past few days, she’s been waiting for me to put the note in. I’m glad that she appreciates the something special I do for her. I was doing it to make myself happy. Added bonus that she likes it too.

9. The closer we get to the holidays the more my calendar fills up – and not just with kid related activities, but things that might be fun for ME too. I keep meaning to pester my BFF about plans for this weekend, but next weekend we’ve got a massive day of baking on our horizon (Seriously, my best friend’s sister-in-law tallied up the ingredients we need and we’re looking at 22 cups of powdered sugar in use. 22. 22. Let me say that again: 22 cups of powdered sugar — oh and TWELVE sticks of butter). But, how much fun is that gonna be? So much fun.

10. I need to get a new treadmill. Or an elliptical. I am getting VERY SICK of Turbo Jam.

Thursday Ten, Don’t Trust A Ho Edition

1. Um, yeah. The “don’t trust a ho” thing is from some of my new music this week. That lovely gem is from “Don’t Trust Me” by 3OH!3. I’m also listening to: “Sex On Fire” (Kings of Leon), “Especially in Michigan” (Red Hot Chili Peppers), “It’s All Your Fault” and “Please Don’t Leave Me” (P!nk), “You’re Not Sorry” (Taylor Swift) and “Stars” (Josh Charles).

2. Speaking of Josh Charles – he’s pretty awesome. Stumbled over him on Twitter. You can follow him on Twitter (here’s the link to his profile). I’m actually really liking his sound – his voice is definitely very Van Morrison-y. You can check him out on Amazon or iTunes, or visit his web page here. If you sign up for his mailing list, you can get a free unreleased MP3. I have the info to do that sitting in my inbox – I’ve just been too freakin’ lazy to do it yet. Okay – I’m done pimping him for the day… but definitely check him out.

3. Guitar lesson today – I started learning “Taylor” by Jack Johnson. The reason she wanted to teach me was because of all the slurs (No, not the politically incorrect kind that you’re not supposed to do – but with guitar there are things called slurs which include hammer-ons and pull-offs. And I can’t really explain it – if you want to know, you should take your own lessons). I’m either going to be VERY impressed with myself for mastering it at some point, or very annoyed that my fingers won’t work that way.

4. Halloween tomorrow – got a last minute invite to a party requiring a costume. Fantastic. Not many options if you don’t want to be a slutty nurse, or a slutty… anything. I think I may just try to find some cat ears, wear all black and call it good. Unless y’all have better ideas? Lay ’em on me.

5. I should totally get bonus points for not forgetting to eat lunch today. While I was running errands (trying to find stupid cat ears), I hit Panera for some soup. Note: Soup is not travel food. Whooops.

6. So, Halloween is tomorrow. I will not be trick-or-treating. Instead, I’ll be waiting for Hubby to get back with the girls so that I can raid their candy.

7. Yesterday, the 365 kicked my butt. Some days, there’s inspiration everywhere and I can find things to take pictures of. Somedays, I take random goofy pictures of myself making funny faces. There’s entirely too few pictures of me sticking my tongue out. Or rolling my eyes. I don’t love having my picture taken – so here’s hoping I don’t have to do that much!

8. Stepson is nearly 13 and in 7th grade. Last night, after listening to approximately two hours of him struggling with math homework with Hubby, it became pretty clear that the kid doesn’t know his multiplication tables at all. Way back when dinosaurs roamed the land and I was in junior high (oh, let’s be real – WAY before junior high) there was that whole memorization of the multiplication tables dealy. And it WAS memorization. It wasn’t thought. It was basically drilling into your brain, “9×1=9, 9×2=18, 9×3=27…” and so on. That way if asked, you could spit out an answer without thinking about it. Stepson can’t. And I don’t know if it’s that they don’t teach it like that anymore (entirely possible) or if he just doesn’t get it? Any ideas? Honestly, I never really struggled with math until my freshman year at University of Michigan in Calculus II which basically drove me to tears and I think I got a C and decided maybe that would just be it for math… and the Engineering program for me.

9. My little Starbucks dude asked me if I was “dressing up for Halloween” tomorrow. He can’t think of a costume. He wants to be Obama but doesn’t want to step on any toes. And I can totally borrow his apron and be a Starbucks person if I want. I don’t even know what to say but it’s good for a laugh.

10. Tickets to see The Killers in concert go on sale tomorrow. I want to go so badly… anyone want to be my date?

You may want to visit Blissfully Domestic and check out other links via “I am Blissfully Domestic” . Blogger seems to not love my COOL “Blissfully Domestic” badge. But check the link – some awesome stuff out there!!

Thursday Ten, Coffee is NOT A Food Group

1. Despite my consciously thinking, “I better eat lunch before guitar lesson, I better eat lunch before guitar lesson…”, guess what I didn’t do? Um, yeah. I hit the Starbucks on the way home, and I’m reasonably sure that cappuccinos aren’t anyone’s definition of healthy lunch (but it’s skim milk in there – so… dairy…?).

2. Obnoxiously Proud Mama Moment: Of the three groups established for reading in The Princess’s class, she’s in the highest one. Aw yeah. I’m insanely proud of her – I read constantly, and love that she’s loving it (Hubby hates reading, so there was a 50/50 shot there).

3. Project Runway last night. Sigh. Where to start? Well, you can read my recap here. Otherwise? Man. I wasn’t enthused with it – how about that? How come at this point in the game, no one can make a gown that doesn’t suck? Despite her generic dress last night, I’m rooting for Korto. Girl broke my heart crying on the Runway last night, and I’m usually immune to that stuff (Kenley, I’m talkin’ to you).

4. Soooo, the VP debates are on tonight. (And that’s all I’m gonna say about THAT!)

5. Latest music purchases: “Light On” by David Cook and Taylor Swift’s cover of “Umbrella”. First of all, skip Taylor’s “Umbrella”. It’s about 90 seconds – not the whole song – it’s cute, but… not really worth it because it’s not the whole song. The new David Cook single… it’s alright. Lyrics-wise, I love the verses but I don’t adore the chorus. Someone told me it sounds like an 80s generic ballad, maybe like it ran away from the Footloose soundtrack. Yeah, I guess I can hear that in it (it’s the chorus. Really. I don’t love that part).

6. I’ve gotten so few work emails today that I would think my email was broken if I wasn’t getting so much of the gobbledygook (Cooking.com? Why? And those crazy Red Envelope e-blasts… wait. I like those!). Oh, and the Systems Admin messages that keep reminding me I have until October 12 to change my password. Got it.

7. Just in case you were counting and keeping track – my birthday is two weeks from today. Add it to your calendars, and celebrate appropriately wherever you are. Don’t worry, there will be more reminders. I love my birthday. You should love it too.

8. Fall has come on hard here in Michigan. It’s been gray for days – with moments of sun through it all. When I left for guitar lesson, it was 57 degrees. Coming home, 54. So, no, it’s not warm. Not even a tiny bit.

9. Halloween is coming up. I hate Halloween. Pumpkin wants to be a dalmatian, and some awesome folks on Twitter have given me suggestions for places to check for costumes (I’ll be checkin’ Costco tomorrow) and even how to make one. I am not the crafty costume-making mom. If I actually make a costume, know the whole world will get knocked off its axis – it will be a life-altering experience. Seriously.

10. Still working on reading “The Story of Edgar Sawtelle”, which is one of Oprah’s picks. I’m about halfway through. I’m actually pleasantly surprised. I almost cried at one point in reading last night. But then I remembered my heart is made of rocks and I moved on without emotion. Really, it’s one of her better picks in awhile. Or so I’m guessing. I haven’t read one of her picks since they were a little lighter (“She’s Come Undone” by Wally Lamb is still one of my all time favorites). It’s definitely worth a try – particularly if you are an animal lover – as it has A LOT to do with dogs. Really.
