Sometimes you have to find joy where it may be

Call me crazy, but I think now that we’ve rolled into April the days of snow and blah weather and seasonal-affective-funkitude should long be over.

Uh. No go.

So, we’re on spring break and the weather is, shall we say, less than fabulous… There’s chaos and busy-ness, and just a general MOOD, lately.

And at those moments  I have to rely on the things I know will make me smile – some of those things are definitely music related (some of those things are brownie and cookie related – I just gotta keep it real – my feelings like sugar). One of my go-to songs to perk my up is the B-52s “Dry County”.

I moved to Michigan 21 years ago this month (next week, in fact. Gah. Where does time go?) and on the drive from California to Michigan, my mom and I listened to the Cosmic Thing tape (yes. tape) numerous times along the way. Now, the B-52s aren’t my FAVORITE band of all time, but I admit, it’s really hard to be in a bad mood when you hear them. And this song? It specifically addresses feeling blah:

When the blues whoomp you up on the side of the head
Throw ’em to the floor and kick ’em out the door

And so that’s what I do.

I kick them. Hard. In the face. BOOM.

Okay. I’m getting carried away.

Anyway, what songs lighten your mood when it’s less than fabulous?

  1. I LOVE the B-52s. Saw them in concert last August: they’ve still got it. 🙂
