Reason #156,854 That I’m a Dork

This morning, I was reading Moosh In Indy and in her post today, she mentioned that “When Harry Met Sally” was her favorite movie – it’s mine too, so when I commented, I said so. It’s one of those movies that is so infinitely quotable – like you know, the whole days of the week underwear thing and how they don’t make Sunday because of God? Classic (But seriously? They DO make Sundays. My kids have Sunday-pants, so something must have changed since the 80s).

I can probably quote this movie frontwards and backwards and love it more every time I watch it. And though I am loathe to admit it, I can pretty much quote all of “Steel Magnolias” too. Bits and pieces of the dialogue from “Good Will Hunting” get stuck in my head at times too (and it’s not altogether uncommom for me to joke about “sandwich welfare” or tell you that “my girl is wicked smaht”).

Part of my deal is that I have a good memory for pop culture stuff. Song lyrics and movies are what are most interesting to me – so I absorb it. Part of it is that I’ve seen those three movies SO MANY TIMES it would be really odd if none of it stuck with me.

Do you have a movie that you know word-for-word? Please tell me so that I know I’m not alone.

  1. Joe Schmitt says

I'm expert in that movie as well. I remember at U of C they gave us a screening before it opened.

I'm also expert in the Godfather (I & II only, not III), all of Woody Allen's early funny movies, and increasingly Mean Girls.

  2. Um. I’ve never seen ANY of the Godfather movies.

But I do like Mean Girls. It’s so fetch.

  3. I have to second Steel Magnolias. Not only can I recite lines, I will speak in a thick Louisiana accent for days after watching the movie.

“I’m pleasant. Damn it! I saw Drum Eatenton at the Piggly Wiggly this morning, and I smiled at the son of a bitch ‘fore I could help myself.” ~~~classic!!!

My other word for word favorite movie is Urban Cowby and A League of Their Own.

“All cowboys ain’t dumb. Some of ’em got smarts real good, like me.”

    and

“Evelyn!! Your kid ate the line up!”

I gotta watch some classics this weekend.

  4. “I bet he takes the dishes out of the sink before he pees in it.”

  5. I just left a big long stinking comment & blogger ate it.

Steel Magnolias "You are a boil on the butt of humanity!" "We can sell t-shirts saying 'I slapped Ouiser Boudreaux.'"

The Princess Bride. Every. Freaking. Word. I'll spare you.

Monty Python & the Holy Grail. Again. I'll spare you.

Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Gone With the Wind, Reality Bites…and many, many more. I'm kind of a junkie & love movie quotes.
